Terracotta floors in Umbria
The restoration of this old farmhouse in Umbria is nearly completed, it’s now time for terra-cotta floors. The terra-cotta or ‘cotto’, as we call it, comes from Cotto Etrusco, a local factory which produces a wide variety of terra-cotta material, but it is well known for its wood fired cotto floor tiles. They are hand-made, look like old tiles and have a tone color variation which gives warmth and a traditional feel to the space where they are laid. This pictures show the tiles before the grouting.
