The umbrian regional law allows for most farmhouses an extension of maximum 100 sq.m. which can be very handy if you need extra space for your large family, for guests or if you simply like more space. This restoration project includes an “L” shape extension on the east side of the original building and the stone facing walls makes it blend with it, creating a large, homogeneous construction. However, for seismic reason we had to create a “joint” (a gap of 10 cm.) between the two structures, allowing each one to react separately to a possible earthquake. Visually, this gap will be covered by the copper down pipe (still not installed in the picture). The tradition external staircase is currently being rebuilt, as it was in very poor condition. The portico on the west side is a new feature and it will act as a sort of outdoor kitchen extension, where one can enjoy the beautiful umbrian sunset.
