“3 bicchieri” wine tasting in Rome
My other passion besides architecture is wine, but I realized I have not posted much about this pleasurable subject. On October 19th I went to Rome, as I have been doing in the last few years, to attend the “Tre Bicchieri” (3 glasses) wine award ceremony that takes place every year at the Città del Gusto, the headquarter of the Gambero Rosso©, publisher of ”Vini d’Italia”, a long established ‘Bible’ of italian wines. This year, there were 415 Tre Bicchieri winners….and they were all available for tasting! I obviously had to restrain myself, but still managed to go through a few dozen of them, more or less divided between white and red. I must say I do not have a preferred ‘color’, I like both of them, and I did taste some great wines. Amongst the whites I recall a wonderful Malvasia 2009 (malvasia istriana 100%) by Damijan Podversic and the usual Braide Alte (chardonnay, sauvignon, picolit, moscato giallo) by Livon. The two reds I still remember distinctively (nose and taste do have memory) are a powerful Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2009 by Podere Castorani and a surprising Valpolicella Sup. Maternigo 2011 by Tedeschi. Overall, it was a memorable afternoon for my nose&palate!
